Portable projectors have become increasingly popular in recent years, offering a convenient way to enjoy movies, presentations, and gaming on the go. Pico Genie is a renowned brand known for its high-quality portable projectors.
In this blog, we compare the features, specifications, and performance of the two new models from their lineup: the Pico Genie Impact 2.0 Plus and the Pico Genie Impact 4.0 Plus to help you make an informed decision when choosing from the Impact range.
Additional Features and Price:
In terms of additional features, the Pico Genie Impact 4.0 Plus offers some notable upgrades compared to the Impact 2.0 Plus:-
- Impact 4.0 Plus Now With 3D Support: Enjoy immersive 3D content with the Impact 4.0 Plus, adding depth and realism to your viewing experience.
- Both projectors feature Keystone correction, which helps adjust the image distortion caused by the angle of projection. However, the Impact 4.0 Plus includes an additional Auto Keystone and HDMI Keystone Correction feature, making it more convenient to set up and align the image correctly.
- HDMI Bluetooth: The Impact 4.0 Plus enables wireless audio transmission to compatible Bluetooth speakers or headphones even when connected to an external device via HDMI, eliminating the need for additional cables. There are not many projectors capable of this feature when connected to HDMI so its a great bonus.
- Digital Zoom: The Pico Genie Impact 4.0 Plus offers a digital zoom feature, allowing you to adjust the projected image size without moving the projector. In contrast, the Impact 2.0 Plus lacks a digital zoom feature, so you just need to physically move the projector backwards / forwards to enlarge / reduce the image screen size
Design and Portability:
The Impact 2.0 Plus is the worlds smallest battery & mains powered ultra portable projector whilst the Impact 4.0 Plus is still extremely compact even with large powerful speakers.
The user interfaces have also been upgraded on the Impact 2.0 and aligned with the rest of the Pico Genie range to make it easy to use even for the most ardent technophobe.
Both the Impact 2.0 Plus and Impact 4.0 Plus exhibit sleek and compact designs, emphasizing portability.
They are built to be lightweight and easily carried in a bag or pocket, making them ideal for on-the-go use with the Impact 2.0 Plus measuring 55 x 55 x 55mm and weighing next to nothing at 170grams and the Impact 4.0 Plus measuring 160 x 90 x 50mm at only 630 grams including the speakers!
Resolution and Image Quality:
The Impact 2.0 Plus features a native resolution of 854 x 480 pixels, supporting a maximum resolution of 1080p. Both projectors use the more advanced DLP technology (rather than LCD) to deliver vibrant and sharp images.
On the other hand, the Impact 4.0 Plus offers a higher native resolution of 960 x 540, with support for a maximum resolution of 4K. This higher resolution results in crisper visuals and more detail projected images.
The Impact 2.0 Plus offers a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 whereas the Impact 4.0 Plus boasts an improved contrast ratio of 3,000:1, providing deeper blacks and better overall image quality.
Brightness
When it comes to brightness, the Impact 2.0 Plus offers 250 ANSI lumens (50 more lumens than the standard previous Impact 2.0) while the Impact 4.0 Plus provides a brighter projection at 500 ANSI lumens. This makes the Impact 4.0 Plus better suited for environments with moderate ambient light.
Connectivity:
Both the Pico Genie Impact 2.0 Plus and the Impact 4.0 Plus offer a range of connectivity options, ensuring seamless integration with various devices:-
Easy iPhone Screen Mirroring: Both models support screen mirroring from iOS devices using an iPhone charging cable. This allows you to easily mirror the screen of your iPhone or iPad onto the projector for sharing content or presentations.
USB-C Display Port: The Impact 4.0 Plus goes a step further by offering USB-C Display Port connectivity. This feature allows you to directly connect to Android smartphones that support DisplayPort to the projector for screen mirroring using a USB-C charging cable.
Touchpad and Wireless Connectivity: Both projectors are equipped with touchpad controls, enabling intuitive navigation through menus and settings. Additionally, they offer wireless connectivity options to Android and iOS devices. This means you can effortlessly connect your smartphone, tablet, or laptop wirelessly to the projector for seamless streaming and content sharing.
These connectivity options provide flexibility and convenience, allowing you to connect and project content from a wide range of devices with ease.
Smart TV & Apps
The Impact 4.0 Plus runs on Android 9, providing an updated and more advanced operating system. Android 9 ensures a smoother user experience and compatibility with the latest apps.
In contrast, the Impact 2.0 Plus operates on Android 7 and still works well with the majority of applications such as Google Play Store/AptoideTV, Netflix, Youtube and other various apps.
Battery Life
Battery life is an essential consideration for portable projectors, as it determines the duration of uninterrupted usage. Both the Impact 2.0 and Impact 4.0 Plus boast an extended battery life of up to 2 hours as well as mains powered projection.
The Impact 2.0 Plus can also be charged via a power bank for those longer needed sessions without mains.
Sound
In terms of audio, both models come equipped with built-in speakers. However, the Impact 4.0 Plus offers an incredible sound quality on a par with a Bose portable speaker.
The Impact 2.0 Plus is far smaller and has good sound but on a much quieter level. However both projectors can be linked by Blutetooth to external speakers if you need even greater sound although its probably not needed on the Impact 4.0 Plus.
Price
The Impact 4.0 Plus typically comes at a slightly higher cost than the Impact 2.0 Plus due to its upgraded features and enhanced specifications and both offer exceptional value for money as good all round DLP LED portable projectors.
Warranty
All Pico Genie models come with a 12 month warranty and have a high reliability rating.
Conclusion:
Both the newly released Pico Genie Impact 2.0 Plus and Pico Genie Impact 4.0 Plus are impressive portable projectors catering to different user needs.
The Impact 2.0 Plus offers excellent portability, good image quality, at a lower price point.
On the other hand, the Impact 4.0 Plus provides a higher resolution, brighter projection, better audio, and the added convenience of Auto and HDMI Keystone correction.
If you prioritize image quality and enhanced features, the Impact 4.0 Plus is a worthy investment. However, if budget and compactness are your primary concerns, the Impact 2.0 Plus will still deliver a satisfying projection experience and if you need an in-between model the Impact 3.0 (see below) is a great choice.
Choose the model that aligns with your specific requirements and enjoy the versatility and convenience of a portable projector.
