Is My Projector Compatible With the Maxlight Cabinet?

Is My Projector Compatible With the Maxlight Cabinet?

By placing the projector inside a cabinet it means there is a greater distance between the projector and the screen so keystone correction, zoom (and lens shift if available) can be used to make the image fit at the new distance.

However its worth noting that in a dark room you may notice a slight grey border at the sides of the screen where its transformed the image to fit your screen. This is sometime called keystone shadow, halo effect, light bleed or overspill.

Before you purchase the cabinet its worth testing if you are happy with this in your room with the lights set to how you want them (lighter the room the less shadows appear). Most people don't notice the borders in a normal lit room but its worth mentioning for those wanting to create the perfect dark cinema room.

Test by moving your projector further back until the screen is 10 inches or 25 cm larger and using the keystone to make it still fit the screen as this is how the image will look once projected from inside the cabinet.

The issue is more pronounced on the really short UST projectors such as Samsung LSP9T and Epsom LS800 where this shorter throw ratio of 0.19 and 0.16 have more chance of seeing these borders in a dark room.

There are lots of things that can be done to minimise it as well such as darken the wall area with non light absorbing paint.

Some key things to keep in mind:

  • At least 8 point Keystone adjustment is required for all models
  • ** Zoom and keystone adjustment required e.g. EH-LS800
  • The 100" cabinet is compatible with all UST projectors with a throw ratio between 0.20 and 0.25 AND has to be a max projector housing size of 70*38*20cm
  • The 120″ cabinet is compatible with projectors with a throw ratio between 0.17-0.25:1 AND has to be a max projector housing size 70*38*20cm
  • Dark Rooms & Keystone Shadows

Below is a table of compatible projectors based on their size and throw ratios.
